Day 1: Arrival in Jordan

We had a smooth trip from Tuscaloosa to Jordan, over 24 hours in all. We had time to take the Tube into London and take a walk along the Thames. Just FYI, Boxing Day is a real holiday in England, everything's all "boxed up" for the day! It was nice to see the streets empty of the usual crush of traffic.

We arrived in Amman near midnight and were so happy to see our cousin Bill Thomas waiting for us after the Customs station. We all piled into his large SUV (including our 7 bags!) and headed home to their spacious apartment.

After a marathon sleeping session, we awoke at noon and have spent a fun day with Leslie, Gray and Natalie. The surprise of the day--snow! The foods in Jordan are delicious, especially the various breads. The Atkins Diet would fail miserably here.

We're eager to drive out to Mt. Nebo tomorrow. It's going to be a week of adventures in Jordan before beginning the major adventure in Delhi.

Happy Holidays!

John and Fran,
So pleased to hear the first leg was uneventful--long but safe. The reunion group this morning was not quite the same without you John. Jordan is a beautiful country. I remember it through the eyes of a 10-12 year old. Take lots of pictures!

Do take a lot of pictures! I did not check the blog soon enough to see that you left a day earlier than planned. Hope things keep going smoothly.
